Ingredients

Turnover

● 4 Sunrise Magic® Apple, peeled, diced
● 2 Sheets of Frozen Pie Dough
● 2/3 cup light brown sugar
● 2 Tablespoons butter
● 2 Teaspoons cornstarch
● 1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon
● 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla extract
● 1/8 Teaspoon salt
● 1 large egg (for egg wash)
● Sugar for garnish (optional)

Vanilla Glaze

● 1 Cup powdered sugar
● 2-4 Teaspoons milk
● 1/4 Teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Instructions
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Remove pie dough from freezer and let it sit out on the counter until it is soft enough to roll out.
  • Using a knife cut the dough into 4-5″ squares and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Roll scraps out to make more squares.
  • Place pie dough squares into refrigerator to chill while you cut your second piece of pie dough.
  • Prepare your apple filling. Combine Sunrise Magic® apples with the brown sugar and butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • Stir frequently until butter is melted then stir in the cornstarch, vanilla, cinnamon and salt.
  • Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool (at least 15-20 minutes) before proceeding.
  • Prepare egg wash by whisking together 1 egg and a teaspoon of water.
  • Remove pie dough squares from refrigerator and lightly brush the insides of your pastry squares with the egg wash.
  • Place 2-3 Tablespoons of the apple pie filling into the center of each square.
  • Gently fold over on corner of the square to the opposite corner, to form an envelope of the apple filling.
  • Using the tines of a fork, press and seal the pie dough edges.
  • Brush the outside lightly with the egg wash. Cut small slits on top of the turnover to vent steam and sprinkle with sugar if desired.
  • Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes until the pastry starts to turn golden brown.
  • Allow to cool before drizzling with glaze.
Vanilla Glaze
  • Whisk together powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons of milk and the vanilla extract in a small bowl. Add milk until a fluid consistency for drizzling.
  • Drizzle the glaze over slightly cooled turnover with a fork. Enjoy while warm or allow to completely cool!
